Huawei unveils Mate 50 Pro flagship with a simplified version of the Snapdragon processor

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has announced the long-awaited flagship smartphone Mate 50 Pro, which received advanced features and a number of unique features. The proprietary operating system HarmonyOS 3.0 is installed on the device.

Snapdragon processor scaled back for Mate 50 Pro

The “heart” of the device is a special version of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. Like the regular version, it has eight cores with a frequency of up to 3.2 GHz, but this version has a 5G modem disabled, so the novelty can only connect to 4G LTE networks. All because of US sanctions against Huawei. The amount of RAM is 8 GB. The built-in flash drive has a capacity of either 256 or 512 GB.

The display features curved edges for a modern, sleek design

The novelty has a 6.74-inch Full HD + OLED display with a resolution of 1228×2700 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a touch layer response rate of 300 Hz. Supports the reproduction of 1.07 billion colors. The screen is protected by ultra-strong Huawei Kunlun glass, which is extremely resistant to scratches and impacts. At the top of the screen, there is a fairly large cutout for a 13-megapixel selfie camera and a 3D ToF sensor used to recognize users by their faces.

The AI-powered camera features improved image quality

The XMAGE rear camera system is said to be the result of years of research and development. It provides great detail and rich colors. Used 50-megapixel unit with variable aperture (f / 1.4-f / 4.0) and optical stabilization, 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module (f / 2.2), and 64-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (f / 3.5). Supports 3.5x optical and 100x electronic zoom. The rear camera also has a proximity sensor and a laser autofocus assistant.

Huawei’s Mate 50 Pro boasts impressive features and specifications

The smartphone allows you to stay in touch even where there is no cellular network coverage: it is possible to organize communication through the satellites of the Beidou system. Thus, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro became the world’s first satellite-enabled consumer smartphone. The application on the smartphone allows you to use satellite communications in the absence of a cellular network signal – you can send text messages (you cannot receive them) and share geotags.

Responsible for power is a 4700 mAh battery with support for 66 W wired, 50 W wireless, and 7 W reverse charging. The device supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax), Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. There is also protection against dust and moisture according to the IP68 standard, but Huawei itself claims that the smartphone is safe to be submerged to a depth of even up to 6 meters, while the said standard provides for diving to 1.5 meters.

The Mate 50 RS Porsche Design smartphone also debuted. In technical terms, it almost completely repeats the Pro version, but instead of a 64-megapixel module, the main camera uses a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto unit with macro functions. This version has 12 GB of RAM on board.
