Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how did you become interested in photography? Hello everyone, my name is Dawn, I’m 27 and I am a professional photographer for 5 years now. I am based in the Central region (France) and Tours (37).
I am passionate about photography since I was a child and I decided to do a photography school 8 years ago to be able to do my job.
How has photography experience changed you as a person/your personal life? Photography is a passion above all, passionate people and everything about photography is a part of my life. I do not spend a day without thinking about photography projects.
Aurore, how would you describe your photographic vision? Colorful and fun.
Do you typically work with a team or run solo? Could you briefly describe your creative process behind the photographs? Yes I work regularly with a makeup artist (Makeup Stephanie C.) and hair stylist (Hémisp’Hair), whether for personal photo projects or clients.
I do not really creative process, I enjoy working in a team with everyone who something they love. All ideas are good they just need a good preparation and team to make them happen.
How do you keep yourself motivated and your photography fresh? I am always motivated! It’s my life ! I am interested in works of every photographer a lot, especially fashion and beauty photographers.
What from your point of view makes the shoot successful? I think to succeed in pictures we need every member of the team to be involved 100%! And the models .. you must dare !!!
What’s going through your mind when you are on set behind the camera? When I start a photo shoot, I am always looking for the best pose, the best expression, the best light …. and also a little bit of feeling …
What type of sessions do you look forward to the most? I love “beauty” phorography or days of wedding.
In your opinion, what are the ingredients for success with photography? Photography is a tough job … I think we need style and a bit of luck…
What does “beauty” mean to you as a photographer? For me beauty is to feel the character of the person and see the expressions of the model that emerges.
Aurore, tell us a secret, what is the key to getting the best out of someone for portrait and beauty shots? You must put the person in confidence, and get the maximum of each pose. The details are also important, that what makes the photo.
Why is having a makeup artist essential to a photographer? Makeup helps to achieve beautiful complexion, beautiful skin and is a perfect tool to camouflage small blemishes that everyone has. The makeup helps to highlight a model.
The vibrancy and clarity in your work is something that immediately stands out. How do you feel about digital manipulation and post processing programs? What is your retouching/production philosophy? I retouch all my photos with Photoshop. But I do not always do the same edits, it depends on the style of the photos … Beauty pictures usually take several hours unlike other pictures. I try to keep the natural side of the skin while hiding any imperfections.
How do you choose which images you ultimately provide to your clients? For the selection of photos, if it’s a client I let him or her to choose the photos and help them giving advices. But if it’s a personal project I choose photos myself by the best pose, expression, light …
Is there somebody you are fascinated about and you’d like to work with in the future? Why? No, I’m not fascinated by any particular person.
During your course of becoming a professional photographer, what is something you didn’t expect out of the journey? What are some challenges you’ve encountered? When I became a professional photographer the hardest part was to stand out of the crowd and compare my own works with works by other photographers. Finding own style is not easy.
What role does social media play in your photography business? How did it help you to grow? Social networks are a great way to become known, to exhibit your works and find customers.
