Camilla, can you please shortly introduce yourself to our readers? What brought you to the modelling world? My name is Camilla Hansson and I am a model and former Miss Sweden. I run my own coaching business, and I am also currently furthering my nutritionist studies at CNM in London. What initially brought me into the modelling world was getting scouted by a couple of agencies at the age of 18. They sent me off to get my pictures taken, and that’s how it all started.

How has the Miss Universe Sweden experience changed your personal and professional life? I received very intense coaching during my year as Miss Sweden and it made me grow in so many ways and really strengthened my confidence. Professionally, I went from being an employee to working for myself.

In your own eyes, what was the moment when your career took off? What traits helped you make it to where you are now? Is it purely based on looks or has your intelligence played a large part? I would say for me the key traits would be persistence, determination, a hunger to succeed, and an ability to focus. You have to know what you want in life because otherwise, how do you even know where to put your efforts? But I don’t really feel like I have “made it yet”. I am constantly trying to grow and setting new goals.

What is your best memory from Miss Universe 2015? Standing on stage at the finals with the huge audience. After all the months of hard preparation, having it come to this final moment. It was quite emotional for me.

Tell us a bit more about The Hansson Foundation. What sparks your fire to do what you do? The Hansson Foundation is a non-profit entity with the aim of providing a positive contribution to society by helping underprivileged children and women reach their full potential.
I love the feeling of being able to contribute. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to do any new projects for a while now as I’ve been occupied with other things. My most recent trip was in February of last year when I went to India, but I hope to be able to refocus my efforts on this front again soon.

What made you decide to become an etiquette teacher? How did you choose this area to focus on? From your teaching experience, do you feel people lack certain knowledge in this field? I became a qualified etiquette teacher through a company called The English Manner after I finished with Miss Universe because I felt I had so much experience and knowledge to give back to others. I have combined my etiquette expertise with what I learned from my time being Miss Sweden. It is about knowing how to present yourself to others from the way you walk, talk, and introduce yourself. They all form part of people’s impression of you.

How do you keep your confidence up? It has been a process for me. My faith in God gives me confidence. Work gives me confidence. Looking after myself and my health is a must and makes me feel great.

Who is someone you feel has really influenced you as a person/a model in general? My coach and good friend Romeo has pushed me throughout the years to do more and be better. I am very grateful for having had him by my side.

Do you have any beauty / skin care tips or tricks to look fresh and rested for early morning photo shoots? Before a photo shoot, I like to massage my face in the morning to remove any puffiness. Recently, I also started doing Epsom salt baths as they detoxify your body, and I feel it reduces water retention. Apart from that, the obvious would be to get enough sleep.

You have been modelling for some years now—what surprised you the most about the industry when you first got into it? It’s not always very glamourous. It can be a lot of waiting around, and if you go to castings, there can be a lot of competition. Which is again why you should try to find a way to stand out with your personal brand.

Is there anything you would change about the modelling industry if you could? I would like for it to be more acceptable to be a healthy weight in the modelling industry. Some women are naturally very slim, but most aren’t and force themselves to be that way. I prefer to keep myself healthy and strong because that’s when I feel at my best.

Camilla, from your point of view, what is the toughest thing about being a model? The pressure you feel to always try to look your best, and we all have our bad days.

What would be your tips on how to look good in front of the camera? Be relaxed and confident, and dare to move around and try different things. The more things you try with different looks, the more likely you are to get a good shot. Also know your best angle. For me, it’s always the right side. Know how to position your body in a way that looks flattering. Usually, it’s slightly sideways rather than straight on.

What advice would you give to young models working toward building their social media profile? Do you feel social media has helped your own career and business? It seems that nowadays, you can’t get the same opportunities without a successful social media platform. For me, it certainly has its place, and it is nice to share certain things with others as well as it being a free marketing tool. I don’t believe it should completely take over your life though, but it would be a shame to miss out completely.

How important is social media in changing and developing concepts of beauty? Do you feel Photoshop has created a skewed perception of the ideal body image? Of course, in some ways Photoshop gives a skewed perception of how someone looks as you are manipulating an image. I think it’s all changing a bit now though as people want to see more realistic looking images rather than manufactured ones that they can’t really relate to.

What else do you have planned in the future? What’s something you haven’t achieved but hope to? I am planning on finishing my studies at CNM to become a qualified nutritional therapist and naturopath as well as furthering my qualifications in the wellness industry. I also hope to keep working as a model for as long as I can! Of course, I have big dreams and many things I want to achieve in my life, but I just have to take things step by step.

Where can our readers get connected with you? Website: www.camillahansson.co.uk.

What does success mean to you? How would you define it?
Success for me is when you are able to fulfil your full potential as a human being, and at the same time maintain close relationships with your loved ones.

What is a typical day in the life of Camilla Hansson? It really varies depending on what I have planned for the day. If I don’t have a client or a photoshoot, then I try to start my day with some form of exercise, eating a healthy breakfast, and usually working on my computer for a couple of hours and maybe have a couple of meetings.

What superpower do you wish you had? Why? I wish I had the power to heal people.

One thing that bugs you about humans is…? Jealousy.

Tell us one thing about yourself people might find surprising. I go to church every Sunday.

Thank you, Camilla.
