New Holiday Trends to Consider in 2023

Trends come and go, whether architecture, fashion or music, some trends move in cycles, while others emerge thanks to new technology; yet there are also holiday trends, which we take a look at in this article.

You might be looking for a different type of holiday, in which case, we offer a few alternatives to a regular package holiday that you could choose for your 2023 holiday.

    • Homestay Holidays – Many people choose a homestay holiday, where you stay with a family in their home to experience life from their perspective. Imagine spending a week with a Thai farming family, learning how to plant and harvest rice! You could stay with an Indonesian fishing family and get first-hand experience of how they live their lives, plus you can exchange cultural aspects to broaden your horizons.
    • Guided Trekking Holidays – If you are into adventure holidays, why not join a guided trekking adventure group and experience the Peruvian Andes? Wherever there are remote areas, the chances are you can find a guided tour; Google can help you source such tour operators, where you will find all the information you need. You can find guided trekking tours in Europe, Scandinavia, Africa, Asia, North & South America, Australia and New Zealand. For those real adventurers, there are self-guided trekking packages where you are given maps and other resources. This is a very different experience to luxury villas in the Maldives and it involves a lot of physical activity, which is great if you are young and healthy.
    • Green Holidays – An eco-friendly vacation might involve planting trees, or helping with marine conservation; university students like these expeditions when they take a gap year. Google can take you to the website of a green holiday provider and you can check out the many packages. If you care about your carbon footprint, this is the kind of holiday for you!
    • Antarctica Cruises – The one part of the world that everyone wants to visit, Antarctica is a glimpse into another dimension of nature. You can join a cruise to Antarctica in one of the South American ports and after a few days of sailing, you arrive in the remotest region on the planet. 3 weeks is the average cruise for the South Polar region and, of course, you are limited to the few months of summer. No one, and we mean, no one, goes to Antarctica in the winter. Click here for crazy winter sports to try.
    • Survival Expeditions – Not for the faint of heart, a survival expert takes you (and a few other crazy people) into a remote region and together, you see if you can navigate your way to the collection point, which would be a long way from where you start. You have to sign a disclaimer and be physically fit with no obvious disabilities, but for the extreme traveller who wants to teeter on the edge of their comfort zone, this is it!

So, no more package holidays, well aside from the annual visit to the Maldives, you can choose one of the above and get right out of your comfort zone.
