What Are The Different Types Of Curtains?

Curtains are one of the most versatile window dressings available and that’s why they’re also one of the most popular forms of window dressings around the world. Made of 2 large sheets of fabric connected to a curtain pole, curtains are easy to use, durable and do a great job at blocking out light leakage form the outside.

But what are the different types of curtains? Most people have never considered the fact there are many types of curtains, due to the fact they’re all based off of the same simple design of fabric connected to a rail. If you’re ever buying made to measure curtains, it’s important you know what sort of curtain you’ll want as some curtains may be incompatible with the curtain tracks in your home, explains DRP Management.

So, what are the main types of curtains?

What Are The Different Types Of Curtains

Pencil Pleat Curtains

Pencil pleat curtains (Sometimes known as top tape curtains) are a timeless design for curtains that has lasted for years as a popular type of curtains due to its stylishness. The pencil pleat is the standard for most curtains available. On these curtains folds of fabric are gathered tightly at the top of the curtain to create a half cylinder shape that will look like a line of pencils.

These curtains with pencil pleat heading are traditionally made up of three rows of string threaded through the pleat for it to attach to a hook on a curtain track or pole.

Double Pinch Pleat Curtains

Double pinch pleat curtains are another classic design that will add a touch of class to any room. On these elegant blinds, the header of the curtains are pleated, then grouped up into groups of two pleats which create a formal tailored look. From the pleats along the header, the rest of the curtains fabric will gently descend towards the ground.

These curtains with a double pinch pleat heading have hooks connected to each pleat grouping so that they can connect to a curtain rail or pole.

Eyelet Curtains

Eyelet curtains (sometimes known as ring top curtains) are a more modern curtains, contemporary type of curtains. The curtain fabric has gentle long pleats throughout and along the header of the curtain are large holes with metal rings along the header rather than string or hooks.

Eyelet curtains connect to a curtain pole, by threading the pole through the eyelet holes along the header of the curtains.
