One of the most important things to know before using kratom is how to dose it effectively. This is not a supplement that you should take with a “one-size-fits-all” approach. In fact, it can have either a stimulant or a sedative effect, depending on the dosage.

Kratom Dosage for Beginners
First, it’s important to note that the proper dose varies from person to person. This depends, in part, on things like your height, weight, and your tolerance.
If you’re brand new to the world of kratom you probably don’t have a tolerance at all. However, it can also have a cross-tolerance effect with other opioids, so keep this in mind.
Generally, it’s best to start with a dosage of one to two grams. If you’re uncertain and tend to be sensitive to substances, stick with a single gram. It’s also smart to weigh out your kratom with a digital scale to make sure you get the dosage right.
After your first dose, wait 30 to 45 minutes and see how you feel. If you think you need more, take one more gram and wait another 30 to 45 minutes. Then, if you still don’t have the desired effect, take one final gram.
It’s best not to take any more than three doses on a single day.
Still not satisfied? Quit for the day and start on another day with three grams right off the bat. Repeat the process, taking an additional gram 30-45 minutes later and a final one 30-45 minutes after that — if necessary.
Always avoid taking more than 8 grams in a single day. Keep playing with this process and you’ll soon find your optimal dose.
Ways to Ingest Kratom
Most people order kratom powder and then ingest it in one of three ways. You can take it in capsule form, make it into a tea, or put it in your mouth and follow it with a non-carbonated drink. This last method is referred to as a “toss and wash.”
What to Expect
If you have an empty stomach, you can usually expect to start feeling effects in about 15 to 20 minutes after your first dose. It will then continue to build in intensity for about two to four hours. If you take a stronger dose, you may start feeling the effects even faster.
In low doses, kratom has a stimulant effect. It’s likely to make you feel energized, focused, and motivated. You’re also likely to feel more social and talkative.
Some people find that it makes them feel “edgy,” at least until they get used to it. It’s possible that you might feel some side effects like nausea, dizziness, or anxiety. However, this usually fades fairly quickly.
At higher doses, you’ll usually feel content and may have a lower sensitivity to both physical and emotional pain. Some report feeling like they’re in a “dream state.” Other effects that are possible with kratom include a warming sensation, mild visuals, increased empathy, and, sometimes, sexual arousal.
