Moving Safely During the Pandemic

Few of us would choose to move during a global pandemic, however, sometimes circumstances make it necessary. Your lease may have come to an end, you may have to relocate for financial reasons, or possibly you found the home of your dreams and can’t pass it up.

With this move, the safety of everyone involved is absolutely top priority. You’ll have to make all your arrangements carefully in advance with COVID-19 in mind. However, if you follow these guidelines, the process should go smoothly and safely.

Moving Safely During the Pandemic

Your Movers

Don’t assume that every moving company follows safety procedures for COVID-19 carefully. Talk to the company and discuss how they proceed during a COVID-19 move. Ask them questions such as the following:

    • Does your company have a mask policy for movers?
    • What other precautions do movers take during the process?
    • Do you limit the size of the crew during COVID-19?
    • Do you sterilize equipment and tools after each move?
    • What do you recommend we do to protect ourselves during the move?
    • Has anyone in the company been diagnosed with COVID-19, and if so how did you proceed?

At Macho Movers Inc. we’re happy to answer any questions you have about our safety procedures. The health of our clients is of utmost importance to us.

Pre-Move Planning and Organizing

In the past, you may have made several box runs in the course of packing up your home, and a few trips to the hardware store for supplies like packing tape. For this move, you obviously want to make sure you make as few outside ventures as you can. Buy more supplies than you think you may need to ensure that you have everything required.

In your pre-COVID-19 days you may have had lots of help packing and cleaning your house, be it from friends or people you hired. This time, you and others in your household are on your own because it’s really not advisable to bring too many outsiders into your home.

Plan for this in advance so you don’t get overwhelmed with stress. If you can take time off work to pack up and clean the house, do so. If this isn’t a possibility, start the packing and organizing way in advance so you don’t get bogged down.

The Big Day

The big day is about getting the move done as quickly and safely as possible. Don’t let anyone in the house without a mask on, and ask everyone to use hand sanitiser before entering your home. Make sure you carry the sanitiser with you to use during the day, and have extra masks available. Despite the hand sanitiser, don’t forget that soap is better at getting rid of the virus. Hand washing is key throughout the day.

It’s essential to make sure that you follow physical distancing rules during your move, although it may be difficult. Remind the crew that they should keep at least 2 meters of distance at all times. Finally, confirm that the truck and equipment have been cleaned prior to arrival.

After the Move

The most important thing you have to do in your new home, once you take a little breather, is to completely cleanse and disinfect it before unpacking or putting anything away. You should do this even if the house looks clean. It’s a big job, but you don’t know the status of the people who lived there previously. Therefore it’s essential to get rid of any potential traces of the virus.

As you unpack your items in the new place, clean and disinfect all of the furniture and other possessions carefully. Once you put everything away, you’re home and you’ve successfully gotten through your pandemic move. Wash your hands!
