CBD in The Cosmetics Industry

Various hemp components, including cannabidiol (as part of leaves and inflorescence), were actively used in ancient times for the preparation of effective cosmetics. They were also trendy in lots of salons where body and hair care services were provided.

During the 20th century, hemp ingredients “fell out” of the field of view of the body and hair care industry. However, in the last few decades, hemp-based cosmetic products have been actively “gaining” their market position.

Recently, CBD cosmetic products are positioned as the main element of a new skincare generation, as they are characterized by environmental friendliness and naturalness. In particular, CBD oil is rich in vitamins B and E, essential fatty acids (Omega-3, Omega-6).

The Effect of CBD on The Skin

What does CBD oil do? In almost all European countries, as well as in the United States and Canada, sales of cosmetic products made from technical hemp are permitted. Its varieties are officially listed in the register of plant species of the countries in which they are grown.

Numerous clinical trials have shown that CBD interacts not only with TRVP-1 receptors, which are present in the skin and are responsible for burning and even pain but also with CB2 receptors present in the immune system. I.e., CBD has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties as great natural skincare. This drug-free cannabinoid provides an antioxidant effect, actually helping to eliminate free radicals (a kind of waste present in the body).

These exclusive properties of drug-free cannabinoids make them particularly effective in dermatology. Among other things, cannabidiol helps relieve chronic skin diseases such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea. They are very difficult to treat, and CBD soothes such unpleasant manifestations as itching, tingling, and burning.

Drug-free cannabinoids have a calming, relaxing effect (both physical and mental associated with sports or impaired sleep quality). It makes cosmetic products based on them, extremely popular. An important factor in terms of skincare is smoothing out the stress factor, which stimulates the appearance of skin dysfunctions.

A lot of cosmetic products based on cannabidiol have proven to be effective for the skin. They can be applied locally, for example, in a very sensitive area or mixed with a greasy base for body care. Thanks to a local application, the calming effect of CBD is felt within a few minutes.

Cannabidiol has been praised more than once for its beneficial healing properties. However, does its effectiveness apply to dermatological diseases? What are the CBD oil benefits for acne treatment?

Due to the low likelihood of side effects, CBD cream can be a relatively safe acne remedy that deserves the attention of scientists. However, you should know how to take CBD oil for proper use. CBD Shelter has a lot of reviews and recommendations, which can help you choose your CBD dosage and ways of its use.

How CBD Treats Acne

Professor Attila Olah’s 2014 paper, published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, provides new evidence that CBD has the potential for treating acne. The study found that cannabidiol has lipostatic, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory properties.

The same study has shown that CBD oil for acne can stop the spread of sebocytes – cells of the sebaceous glands that produce fatty secretions. CBD does not cause the death of existing sebocytes but significantly reduces their reproduction. CBD also reduces inflammation associated with acne due to its universal anti-inflammatory effect.

Due to the small number of scientific studies on CBD and acne, it is difficult to recommend any method of use for the treatment of this disease. However, in Olah’s experiment, the ointment was applied to the skin. It seems that scientists consider this method to be preferable.

Positive effects can also be obtained with oral use of CBD since its anti-inflammatory properties were also found in this case.

A 2016 report published in the journal Experimental Dermatology supplemented this study by analyzing the effects of other phytocannabinoids on acne. Scientists have discovered that phytocannabinoids such as CBD, CBC, CBDV, and THCV may be “new effective and safe anti-skin inflammation” solution.

Another report indicated that patients applied the cream with a 3% cannabis seed extract twice a day for 12 weeks, and it reduced sebum secretion and redness significantly. Finally, synthetic CBD in the form of a special composition for external use (BTX 1503) has shown promising results at the stage of its testing on volunteers. Its effectiveness is now being tested in a randomized, double-blind clinical trial.

CBD, Acne Scars and Wound Healing

There is only a little evidence that CBD oil for acne helps to heal wounds, but research in this area is already underway. In one of them, a component obtained from flax and similar to CBD was studied. The data showed that the extract accelerates wound healing due to its anti-inflammatory effect.

In 2019, Italian scientists conducted a small study in which they analyzed the effects of CBD in chronic skin diseases and scars. Each of the 20 subjects had one of the following diseases: psoriasis, acne, atopic dermatitis, or scars from them. Participants used CBD ointment twice a day for three months.

The results were positive: the subjects improved their skin condition, and symptoms decreased. At the same time, during the treatment, they did not have any irritations or allergic reactions.

Conclusion

Scientists have concluded that applying CBD to the skin is “a safe and effective non-invasive alternative that can improve the quality of life of patients with skin diseases, especially those of an inflammatory nature.”

Cosmetic products based on CBD ingredients provide healing. In the case of drug-free cannabinoids use, they have a therapeutic effect on the skin. A feature of CBD cosmetics is that it is suitable for any type of skin (from young to mature, including the most sensitive, and from oily to dry). After its use, a moisturizing, nourishing, calming, restoring effect is observed.

More and more CBD hygiene and cosmetics products are entering the national hemp market. There are a lot of exclusive therapeutic products – soaps, creams, gels, balms, shampoos, etc.
