When you are invited to attend a business event, a tradeshow or an exhibition, it is great news for your business. Not only is it a great chance to network with other businesses out there, but it is also a great chance to promote your brand and get yourself out there.

The only problem with this being your focus is that it can be hard to know how to attend an event without over-doing it, especially if you are focused on getting the most out of it as possible.

To help you to achieve this balance, we have put together our guide to event karma, or should that be how to attend an event without over-doing it completely.

Don’t be Afraid to Bring the Right Materials, Just Don’t Go Overboard

When you attend an event you are going to want to make sure that you get your brand out there. One of the best ways to do this is to hand out flyers, business cards and other printed materials that people can take home with them. It is all too easy to go completely overboard with printed materials, you want to have enough to hand out, but you don’t want to either waste money printing lots of materials, or take too much time handing out flyers which are not going to be read (or even kept).

Be Bold With Your Approach, but Never Scary

At a busy event you need to make sure that you stand out from the crowd, but this can be hard to do. You need to make sure that you are bold with your approach to your potential customers and contacts, however, you need to be careful with your approach too. You should never scare anyone away, or appear that you are too big for your boots.

Use the Quiet Times to Focus on Those Key People

There are going to be some people that attend the event that you will really want to focus on and try to either create a business relationship with them, or secure their business if they are a customer. Quiet periods are often thought to be the best time to get out and grab some lunch, however, if you can, you should use quiet times as a way to focus on those key people that you want to speak to. When you are not swamped with people you can really say everything that you want and make sure that you are listening to them too.

Take the Right People With You

When you are attending an event you will want to have brand ambassadors with you who are going to be more than happy to shout out about how good you are. However, those people shouldn’t be too in your face. It is good to have people who are personable, who are easy to approach and who know what they are talking about. That way your brand is always going to be seen in the best light possible.

So, now you know how to make sure that you are the perfect balance between being a good event attendee, as well as making sure that you get the maximum exposure possible for your brand.
