EQ Vs IQ: Why Emotional Intelligence Will Take Your Kid Further

Assessing a child by means of their IQ is a popular option and has generally become the accepted way of evaluating children and adults. However, having a high IQ doesn’t mean that you will have great social skills or even that you will be successful in life. There are other variables that need to be considered.

Increasingly more emphasis is being placed on, EQ tests. It’s these you should be more concerned about when assessing your child and choosing the best childcare Matraville for them.

Difference Between IQ and EQ

An IQ test is designed to test the intelligence of people. It does this by providing an array of logical puzzles and possible answers. The speed and efficiency in which you answer will dictate your IQ.

In contrast, an EQ test looks at the emotional response. This test creates scenarios and possible solutions. Your decision regarding those solutions reflects how good you are at recognizing emotions, controlling them, and responding to other people’s emotions.

Having a high IQ test doesn’t mean you will score high on an EQ test and vice versa.

Traditionally IQ has been used to assess the potential success of any child. But, this is increasingly being replaced with EQ scores, and for good reason:

Social Skills Matter

The best and most successful people recognize that they can’t do everything themselves. They will know what their own skills are and use these where appropriate. For everything else, they will get the best to do the job for them.

In order to do this, you will need to connect with others. That forms a bond and even allows you to tell them what to do. The only way this is possible is if you have developed social skills. That’s the ability to interact with others positively.

Social skills are often taught and improved through early childcare and subsequent schooling. The better children become at sharing, interacting with others, and voicing their own opinion the easier they’ll find it to interact with others as adults. This will help them get the desired results and achieve goals.

Learning From Experience

If you have a high IQ but low EQ it is likely that you’ll find it difficult to accept that you are wrong. In this instance, it will be much harder to work with others or even to learn from your own mistakes. The simple truth is that no one can be right all the time. Accepting you’ve made a mistake allows you to grow as a person and improve the way you do it next time.

Professional Acceptance

Developing emotions and improving EQ means that you are better able to handle your emotions and deal with difficult situations. If you don’t develop this control, like many people with low EQ scores, then you’ll find it much harder to react positively in specific situations.

This will quickly mean that people don’t want to work with you, limiting your chances of success in life. In short, parents have a duty to help children develop their EQ, it’s easier to improve EQ than it is to improve IQ.
