1. Sunburn

If you’re living in a sunny region, you need to protect your skin from UV rays every day. Keep in mind that your breast skin is especially sensitive and can easily get burned. In addition to common side effects like peeling, sunburn can trigger severe itching. If that’s your case, you can help relieve your itching with a moisturizer. The American Academy of Dermatology also recommends cool showers and moisturizers based on aloe vera.

2. Eczema

Eczema  is a chronic skin disorder that is characterized by dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. If your skin is prone to eczema, then, your itchy boobs might be the result of the condition. Avoiding potentially irritating fragrances in your products can help you get rid of that annoying itching. If this tip is not helpful for you, talk to your doctor, they might prescribe you a stronger product.

3. Yeast Infection

You’ve probably heard that yeast infections commonly occur in vagina and mouth. However, they’re actually extremely common under the breasts as well. If your breast skin is constantly exposed to moisture, this creates an environment that’s perfect for yeast to multiply and spread, which can trigger itchy boobs. To get rid of this issue, you’ll have to keep this area dry and use an anti-yeast cream.

4. Certain Medications

All meds have side effects and many of them can cause itchy skin. These can include diuretics, acne medications, and certain cholesterol and blood pressure medications. If you think that your medication is a true cause of itchy skin, then it’s wise to talk to your doctor to change your dosage or find substitutes for your medication.

5. Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune skin disorder that makes skin cells build up and form scales and dry, itchy patches. Just like eczema, it can occur on and under your breasts. You can treat this issue with a topical steroid and try to avoid fragrances, which can worsen psoriasis symptoms.

6. Contact Dermatitis

Contact dermatitis is an allergic reaction that occurs when your skin is exposed to an allergen or an irritant causing itchiness and redness. Washing your bras with regular detergent or drying them with dryer sheets might cause your boobs to itch. Try to use fragrance-free products if you notice contact dermatitis.

Thyroid dysfunction treatment  can help you get rid of skin dryness as well as many other health issues caused by the underactive thyroid gland.

8. Dirty Bra

Unfortunately, washing your bra rarely can result in problems with your boobs. Dirty bra often carries bacteria that are able to infect your skin leading to irritation and itchiness.

Actually, your chest skin is a place that is especially vulnerable to bacteria, and therefore it’s possible to develop an infection in that place. Plus, sweatiness can create an ideal environment for bacteria which will multiply extremely quickly. If you think your breasts are itching due to a dirty bra, try a topical antibiotic to relieve irritation and inflammation, and don’t forget to wash your bra more often.

9. Heat Rash

A heat rash on the chest can also contribute to itchy boobs. If breasts get overheated and sweat, the skin becomes red, irritated, and itchy. Heat rash usually occurs when sweat gets trapped under the skin and blocks pores. To avoid this issue, wear lightweight bras that will keep your skin cool.

10. Improper Bra

Bras made from cheap synthetic fabrics (especially polyester and latex) can lead to skin irritation and itchiness. Opt for bras made of natural fabric like cotton.

If you experience itchy breasts, it’s more likely that it’s caused by one of the mentioned above reasons but, not breast cancer. However, there’s still a small chance that it might be inflammatory breast cancer. This is a rare and aggressive type of cancer that attacks your skin’s dermis resulting in an acute inflammatory response.

Inflammatory breast cancer is usually accompanied by a rash, orange-peel skin, and red, inflamed skin. It might also be  Paget’s disease of the breast. This is another rare type of breast cancer characterized by flaky or scaly skin around the nipple and bloody nipple discharge.

12. Radiation Therapy for Breast Cancer

Radiation can lead to many unpleasant symptoms and itchy boobs are one of them. Radiation therapy for breast cancer dries out and burns breast skin which can contribute to itching.

13. Pregnancy or Breastfeeding

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, your breasts are exposed to different changes and can significantly increase in size. Stretch marks that might appear can lead to itchy skin. During breastfeeding, your nipples may also get irritated and dry.
