    • 1 can of beans.
    • 1 ½ cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
    • 2 tablespoons of chicken broth.
    • A pinch of baking powder.
    • A pinch of salt.
    • 2 tablespoons of lard.
    • 1 packet of fried corn husks.

Step by step

  1. To begin with, fill a bowl with hot water and place the corn husks. Let them soak for about 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, to prepare the filling, take a pot and mix the beans with the cheese and add a pinch of salt to taste. Set the preparation aside.
  3. Then, to make the dough, take a bowl and beat the lard with 2 tablespoons of chicken broth until it is fluffy. You should use an electric mixer to make it faster. Combine the tamales flour, the baking powder and the salt in a bowl and stir in the lard mixture. Mix well and stir in the broth little by little. Beat for several minutes on high speed and, once the dough is slightly sticky, cover it with a damp paper towel to keep it wet.
  4. After that, take a corn husk and add about ¼ cup of dough, spreading it on the upper part of the husk. Add 2 tablespoons of the cheese and beans filling in the middle of the dough. Fold the corn husk in a way that the filling doesn’t come out.
  5. Finally, take a steamer and add some water to it. Place the tamales vertically, so that no water touches their interior part. Once the water boils, reduce to a simmer and steam the tamales for about 1 hour and a half. Enjoy!
