Eric Lindstrom of Utah On Team Managers and What Makes a Good One

No matter if you’re an avid fan or only follow the news about the NFL, you’ve heard about some of the decisions made by team managers in the past few years. The way the game has been played, however, isn’t changing nearly as much as it used to.

Today’s game has stayed much the same since it began over 100 years ago and will continue to do so as long as football remains popular among viewers and players alike.

So, when we posed the question to Eric Lindstrom of Utah “What makes a good Team manager?” this is what he had to say:

They Have to Be Able to Manage People

Being an football team manager is about more than just the team. You have to be able to manage people, both players, and staff. It’s not an easy job, but it’s a rewarding one.

As a manager, you don’t just deal with on-field issues; you also have to handle everything that happens off the field as well.

From coordinating schedules to managing budgets and dealing with sponsors, managers have their hands full with every aspect of running the team.

They Need to Be Able to Motivate Their Players

A manager has to be able to motivate their players to play at their best. This can be done in many ways. For some, it’s telling them that they need to play for the fans, or for their families, or for themselves.

It could be motivating them through conflict or by talking about where they want to go after the game. It really just depends on what’s going on with the player at that moment and how they’re feeling and what motivates them.

They Need to Be Able to Game Plan

A good manager is able to make adjustments. Players are constantly getting hurt, and other players are constantly stepping up, so the manager needs to be able to react accordingly.

They need to know the strengths of their team and use those strengths to their advantage in order to win games.

For example, if your team has a lot of passing plays that work well for it, then you need to call more passing plays than running plays in order for them to succeed.

They Need to Be Able to Make Adjustments

Managing a football team is more than just being able to make adjustments in-game. They need to be great at what they do but also have the skills and capabilities to adapt to different situations.

The best managers are able to use their experience and knowledge of the game itself when making changes on the fly. It’s not always easy, but it’s necessary for success.

They Need to Be Able to Be Decisive

In order to be a successful manager, it is important to have the ability to make quick decisions. For every decision that needs to be made, there are many factors that go into it.

When making these decisions, managers need to take into account their team’s current status and what the opposition is trying to do. This takes skill and experience.

The more you manage and make these decisions over time, the better you will become at doing so and the more skilled you will become at your position as a manager.

Conclusion

According to Eric Lindstrom, the qualities of an excellent manager are as follows. They need to be organized, efficient, and able to multitask.

They also need to have experience with managing people and with football so they can relay messages effectively.

Additionally, they should be able to handle pressure well and have the ability to work well under deadlines while still performing their job efficiently.
