If you’re looking for the perfect place to raise a family, choosing a safe neighborhood should be on the top of your list.
You don’t need to look at remote communities so far off the map you might as well live in another country. There are a lot of safe neighborhoods either in or near America’s most populous metropolitan cities. Some are sprawling suburbs, while others are quiet towns that are only a few miles from a major city. For instance, the safest neighborhood in America is Zionsville, IN, which is only 14 miles from Indianapolis, one of the most dangerous cities in the country.
The Ranking Criteria
For the safest neighborhoods in America, we used data from HomeSnacks.net and NeighborhoodScout.com but split the ranking into two categories. The first category has towns or suburbs with less than 100,000 residents. The second category deals with larger towns and cities with populations of over 100,000. The ranking was based on the total number of violent and property crimes per 1,000 residents for smaller suburbs and crimes per 100k people for more substantial towns.
The crimes include:
• Murder Armed robbery
• Rape
• Larceny-theft
• Aggravated assault
The data used for this list contains the population totals and the number of total crimes reported for each city. A total of 293 cities in the U.S. with a population of more than 100,000 was analyzed for this report, according to the HomeStacks article.
Where Would You Like to Live?
Places like these give you the best of both worlds: safety, low crime rates, available jobs, excellent schools, and a lot of big-city amenities. However, no matter how safe a place is on paper, you still have to do your due diligence if you’re looking to buy or rent a property. Always conduct a background check on the person you’re dealing with and search property records to verify the title but not to worry as it is simple to take an online CRB check.
