Have you worked hard to achieve your health and fitness goals? Still struggling with certain areas of stubborn fat? If so, you may have looked into various treatments both surgical and non-invasive such as body contouring.
Before you go under the knife, there are safe and effective non-invasive options to target those stubborn areas and get you the results that you desire. So let’s take a look at the latest body sculpting technology – Coolsculpting and see if it’s right for you.
What is Body Contouring?
First and foremost, what is body contouring? Body contouring can be surgical or non-surgical and it’s goal is to reshape areas of the body, typically areas that weight loss have not been able to target.
For the sake of this article we’ll be focusing on non-surgical body contouring which is called lipolysis. Lipolysis includes cryolipolysis such as Coolsculpting®, injection lipolysis, laser lipolysis like Zerona® and radiofrequency lipolysis such as truSculpt®. These procedures target and/or destroy fat cells in a variety of ways depending on the type of body sculpting performed.
What is Coolsculpting®?
So, what is Coolsculpting® (or Koolsculpting®) specifically? Coolsculpting® uses controlled cooling or cryolipolysis to target and eliminate fat cells that haven’t responded to normal diet and exercise. Unlike some other forms of body contouring, Coolsculpting® doesn’t use needles and is not a surgical procedure meaning there’s no recovery or downtime.
How it Works
How does Coolsculpting® destroy those stubborn fat cells? Coolsculpting® targets the fat cells in the desired area and crystallizes them. This process destroys only the fat cells that have been targeted and in the weeks following your treatment those dead cells will be naturally removed from your body through normal bodily processes. Any areas that have not been targeted by Coolsculpting® will remain unchanged.
Why do you want to eliminate these fat cells? Certain areas of our bodies may be more difficult to see results on through normal diet and exercise as normal weight-loss just decreases the size of fat cells it does not eliminate those cells. With Coolsculpting® you may be able to reduce the number of fat cells by as much as 27% after 6 months of treatments. These cells remove themselves from your body once destroyed meaning they won’t migrate to another area.
There are over 50 publications backing the results and safety of Coolsculpting® for body sculpting.
What to Expect At Your Appointment
If you think you may be interested in Coolsculpting®, begin by finding a reputable clinic with professionals trained in this body sculpting technique such as Vigam Medical Spa and Laser. Always book a consultation before committing to the procedure so you can discuss your concerns with a trained professional to ensure that you are a candidate for Coolsculpting®.
At your initial visit you and your Coolsculpting® practitioner will discuss your goals and the areas that you’d like to focus on. They will discuss with you your weight loss journey and look at the whole picture when it comes to your health and goals. From there, they may ask to take a look at your area(s) of concern and will discuss with you a customized treatment plan.
Your treatment plan will depend on the area(s) you want to target. If there are multiple areas you’d like to address, typically you will work on each area one at a time to achieve the results you want. This usually involves multiple treatments over the course of 6 months. In some cases, Coolsculpting® practitioners may be able to perform Coolsculpting® on multiple areas at once.
At your Coolsculpting® treatment appointment your practitioner will apply a gel pad to the targeted area and then use an applicator to control cooling. Treatments are usually around 35-1 hour depending on the area(s) being treated.
Are There Side Effects?
You may experience odd sensations during treatment such as pinching or pulling and feelings of intense cold or tinglingly. These feelings are normal and may subside during the course of treatment.
After your Coolsculpting® treatment you may notice some redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness, aching, itching or numbness. Most of side effects of cool sculpting will resolve within a few hours or a few days but numbness may remain for a few weeks post-treatment.
