7 Dos and Don’ts for Naturally Beautiful Skin

Who doesn’t want to have a radiant complexion and smooth skin? Beautiful skin makes it look like you’re carrying a secret source of light within and glowing from the inside out. Sadly, no matter how hard we try, we can’t all have naturally beautiful skin. Blemishes, acne, spots, redness, and wrinkles are just some of the problems most of us face every day. Instead of spending a fortune of different products at the drugstore and praying that they will do miracles, you can do a thing or two that will make your skin naturally beautiful.

DO – Use a Moisturizer Daily

While people whose skin is oily don’t want to use them, moisturizers will actually help keep your skin healthy. Cleaning your face with alcohol-based products that leave your skin dry might seem like a reasonable move, but if you do this, your body will produce more oil to overcompensate for the dryness. Also, people with dry skin should apply moisturizer because dry skin is easily damaged by the sun as well as cold air, causing it to quickly become dry and flaky. For colder months, use a moisturizer that’s thick and cream-based, and if you’re not sure what’s best, stick to products made of natural ingredients such as coconut and macadamia oils or aloe vera.

DON’T – Mask Dry Skin With Makeup

When you have skin problems, it’s natural that you want to cover them up and hide them with makeup. However, when you cover your dry skin with foundation, it will only look even duller and flaky. If you want to wear makeup, make sure you prepare your face for the products you are going to apply: exfoliate and moisturize first. Exfoliation will get rid of those dead skin cells, and moisturizer will prepare it for the layer of foundation, concealer, highlighter, and any other product you decide to apply. Also, if you have naturally dry skin, try to avoid rubbing on your foundation because it can easily get under the dry skin and make it even more noticeable. You can pat it gently with a beauty blender or your fingers.

DO – Exfoliate Regularly

Unlike cleansing, which is gentle and mild, exfoliating is a bit harsher process and can leave your skin looking red and sensitive to the touch if you’re not careful. This is particularly important for people who have naturally sensitive or dry skin, and they should carefully pick the right exfoliant for their skin type. You can exfoliate once or twice a week, preferably in the evening after you remove your makeup. This way, you will remove the layer of dirt particles and dead skin cells and allow your thirsty skin to absorb more nutrients and vitamins from your serums and moisturizers.

DON’T – Ignore Skin Problems

Teenagers from all over the world experience hormone-induced s outbreaks and inflammation, and while Aussies have it easier because the sun and the ocean air are good for their skin, many young people firmly believe they will have skin problems forever. On the other hand, if you keep experiencing skin problems well into your adulthood, it might be a good idea to visit a dermatologist in Sydney or any other city you live in. A dermatologist will be able to help you with your skin problems and help you discover what’s causing them in the first place. What is more, they will also recommend the best possible treatment based on your situation and skin type.

DO – Remove Makeup Before Bed

We can’t stress enough how important it is to always remove your makeup at the end of the day. Even when you’re really tired and just want to hit the sheets and drift off, you should make an effort and remove your makeup, even if you’re just wearing mascara. A layer of makeup will prevent your skin from breathing and you can end up with blackheads, blemishes, clogged pores, infected eyelash roots, or worse. Keep makeup removing wet wipes by your bed so you can get to them when you’re tired.

DON’T – Forget to Drink Water

We talked about the importance of moisturizers, but drinking water is imperative for healthy skin. You should drink at least eight glasses of water every day, but you can also eat fruits and veggies that contain a lot of water such as cucumber, grapefruit, and watermelon. If you keep forgetting to drink during the day, get a nice water bottle and carry it with you, or install an app that will send you reminders to drink through the day.

DO – Wear Sunscreen

Sunscreen shouldn’t be optional! Wearing sunscreen and other products with SPF should be your priority every day, especially if you live in a hot and sunny country like Australia or California. People of all genders, all ages, and all skin types should apply sunscreen when they leave their homes no matter what season it is. Even if it’s cloudy outside, sun rays can penetrate through the clouds and damage your skin, causing it to wrinkle and age prematurely and increasing your chances of getting skin cancer.

Remember that your skin is there to protect you, but it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be protecting it in return. Try to do research to find out what’s your skin type and what products work best for you, and work on building a skincare routine that will ensure that you have naturally glowing skin.
