Photographer Luiza Lipinska-Dzido: The More Natural and Spontaneous You Act, the Better You Look in Front of the Camera

I feel that I am the right person in a right place, I’m just happy.

Luiza, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey as a photographer. What sparked your interest in photography and what do you love the most about it now? I am a photographer skilled in portrait, lifestyle, fashion and sensual photography, based in Warsaw, Poland. I have always been a creative soul. As a kid I was drawing and sketching a lot, and as an adult I discovered photography. At the very beginning I was taking photos of my friends and family, nothing special. Now, that I am more aware of what I am doing, I love to discover different emotions in peoples faces, I adore to compose pictures that I have deep down in my head.

In your opinion, how has photography influenced or changed you as a person? I see pictures everywhere I am going, everyday things and views inspire me. I am more sensitive to visuals.

What is your favorite part of being on set? The most favorite part is that it gives me some kind of thrills and a feeling of great enthusiasm and eagerness. I feel that I am the right person in a right place, I’m just happy.

What is going through your mind when you are on set behind the camera? It may sound silly but I guess I don’t have much on my mind during a photo shoot, I just focus on what I see and try to achieve the best results.

Would you agree on the fact that everyone can buy a digital camera and start shooting in a day? What are the ingredients for success with photography? Well, it is true that everyone can buy camera but not everyone has that sense of aesthetics and sensitivity which are the ingredients for success.

What is your philosophy when it comes to shooting fashions shots? Choosing a perfect model is the key for me. When I think of what I have to shoot, I imagine certain type of beauty or even certain person I want to work with. Then I think about all the rest, from concept to frames.

What from your point of view makes a great fashion photograph? How do you usually balance your style with a client’s vision and how do you choose which images you ultimately provide to your clients? Oh, like I said in the question above – a perfect model, then right concept and creative frames. I provide images that I cant turn my eyes off of them.

Could you take us through the typical planning process for your images? What is your mental checklist before a shoot? I build a full scenario in my head. I know what I want to achieve and just realize it step by step. But I am spontaneous as well when a lightning strikes me, if you know what I mean.

Tell us why is having makeup artist, stylist or other professional creatives essential to a photographer? People like MUAs and stylists help to complete my vision of a perfect shoot. They also bring their own ideas which bring some kind of freshness to the whole work.

Do you have any tips for non-models on how to look good in front of the camera? The more natural and spontaneous you act, the better you look in front of the camera. Try to relax and everything is going to be alright.

What kind of gear would we find in your bag? A full frame camera, mostly portrait lenses of different focal lengths and a reflector.

Luiza, if you had unlimited resources, who or what would you shoot? Are there any photography genres you would like to experiment with more? I would like to try underwater photography one day.

From your point of view what makes the shoot/set successful? In my opinion rush is the worst enemy of a good shoot so take your time and do what you have to do and what you have planned.

To your opinion, what role image editing programs play in today’s photography? What are advantages and disadvantages of using it? They role is huge, post processing is one of the things that provides you your own style. It also helps you to get rid of unnecessary things out of the picture but that is kind of obvious.

What are your future ambitions? Any cool projects that you are working on or have coming up that you don’t mind sharing with us? My future plan is to run my own studio, hopefully I am gonna make my dream come true as soon as possible.

Could tell us some things that you have overcome to get to where you are today? Oh yes, to achieve anything you have to practice a lot, like a really lot! After I felt I am ready to shoot as a professional, which believe me, wasn’t that fast, I had to build a portfolio. That was another step forward but I was afraid that professional models will be like: oh gosh, these photos are trash! Anxiety was my enemy but I was and still am stubborn this is why I am where I am now.

What do you feel the impact of the Internet has had (is having) on photography? Internet has a huge impact on photography in my opinion. It is full of different images, tips, information that can actually inspire.

Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you? Facebook: fb.com/luizalipinska, Instagram: instagram.com/lipinskaluiza.

A common misconception about photographers is that we…? Is that we only press the shutter button and have fun. We have to work really hard so people can see final results.

One thing that bugs you about humans is that…? Is that people keep pushing each other down instead of empowering themselves.

What is your wildest work story? Wildest? Hmmm… I am quite a calm person, there are some spontaneous stories but I wouldn’t call them wild.

If you could be someone else for one day, who would that be? Why would I? I like being myself. Always be yourself. Unless you can be Beyonce, then always be Beyonce (joking).

Please tell one surprising fact about yourself. I started my career when I was 30 years old. It is never too late.

Say something to young artists who follow your work closely. Keep pushing your boundaries!

Thank you, Luiza.
