Interview: Model Danille Rodriguez

“Modeling is a straightforward industry, you either have the look, height or weight requirements or not!”

2016 #15 VOL I Danille R WEB cutDanille, in short could you tell us a little bit about yourself and where is home for you at the moment? Well, where do I began… I was always pushed into modeling. Growing up I was always naturally thin, and TALL, I had these defining cheekbones that everyone loved and I hated. So around 18 I flirted with the idea of modeling, where I took modeling workshops for walking and poses, I also did some photoshoots and fashion shows. Modeling for me has always been that one constant and outlet to grow and learn about myself. I currently live in Texas, which has been home for me since I had my son.

What keeps you excited about modeling? Current fashion trends! I’m a sucker for who’s wearing what and I love the fashion police TV show on E!

In your opinion, what’s the biggest misconception about the models? That we need to be serious all the time.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could? Honestly nothing. Modeling is a straightforward industry, you either have the look, height or weight requirements or not! It’s a hard industry to get into but it’s also a honest industry as well. I feel it makes you stronger as a person, dealing with rejection all the time for certain gigs.

Do you remember your very first shoot? How was it? I was 18, it was horrible I was so timid, shy, and thought what am I doing? My self-confidence wasn’t there and I didn’t know who I was, I honestly didn’t know my body. Because growing up I always had this tall slender look, and defining cheekbones everyone said I should model and when I did my first shoot I was just not ready.

You spent quite some time in Japan. How has life in Japan changed your personal or professional life? What did you like the most about this country? In Japan I stuck out like a sore thumb, I am 5’9 Hispanic female, with dark features compared to the Okinawans who are all under 5 feet with fair skin, I honestly felt like Godzilla! But this was a good thing as well. Professionally, I was featured in 3 portfolios and had a lot of fun! Life changed completely the culture shock, of having no mainstream Walmart or Target was a bust! Constant finger pointing and gestures was a form of communication there!

2016 #15 VOL I Danille R WEB3 cut2What or who influenced your to return to modeling? My son got diagnosed with Autism, for now, it’s an outlet to be focused on myself, who I am and what I want as a person. It’s my time not to be worried about therapy appointments!

What advice would you give to a younger-self? Let all self-conscious thoughts and views go, YOU GOT THIS GIRL!

What goes through your mind when you’re in front of the lens? Pure happiness honestly, ok and do I look good? HA or I hope I don’t have lipstick on my teeth!

What do you look for in photographers that you would do trade with? Creative concepts and pure talent and FUN!

What are your favorite genres or styles of modeling? Natural light and Retro concepts of the 40’s-60’s! Something about that time when women could be women without having to show off their entire body, and still have you intrigued with the photo!

Are there any models in the industry you look up to? Why? Alessandra Ambrosio, she honestly has it all, she’s in her late 30’s, modeling and is married and has children!

How would you define word “beauty”? Who in your life has most influenced how you think about beauty and about style? When I think about that word, my mother comes to mind, she honestly is the best woman I know. She has always been there for me. Growing up, she always implemented the word beauty, not from makeup or having the best brand clothes, but loving who you are from the inside, teaching me of acceptance towards other who make look or are different. Taught me a lot about myself and who I am today.

Are there any beauty secrets you swear by? What are your favorite beauty products? Yes, I feel taking care of your skin is key, moisturizing and toning before applying makeup is my motto. Currently I’ve been in love with using, Josie Maran- pure argan hydrating milk treatments and Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz pencil. I love the natural fullness it gives my brows!

2016 #15 VOL I Danille R web cut3What are some things in your wardrobe you would never throw away? Do you have style icons? I am honestly always replacing everything in my closet, I love to buy clothes I’m always following fashion trends! Jennifer Lopez is my style icon! Her style is so graceful but yet so chic and trendy for any occasion.

When do you feel most glamorous? Haha, in the shower, I’ll tell you why. In the shower there’s no judgments, it’s yourself, all natural, no makeup, your hair slick wet back and it’s just you taking care of yourself. From shaving your legs to shampooing and conditioning your hair, the shower is so relaxing to me that it’s like a spa experience all the time!

Danille, do you have other ambitions outside of modeling? Yes I am currently finishing up my degree to become a teacher, and I also have an interest to become an ABA therapist to understand my son more and understand others like him. Teaching is a great passion of mine.

How people can contact you about shoots? You can contact me by email, [email protected] or by www.danille-rodriguez.com where you can view some of my latest photos.

2016 #15 VOL I Danille R WEB3 cut1What’s something you haven’t achieved but hope to? Modeling is great, doing this interview with you Dana, is a great accomplishment right now. I am so happy and excited just to be taking the take to answer these questions, sharing who I am and what I did to become who I am means a lot. I am a timid person and so shy, it was hard to find that confidence, and it wasn’t till now that I was like hey, I am beautiful enough to be in magazines and to be published is amazing!

What are some of your favorite things to do on your spare time? I love to paint and shop!

What superpower do you wish you had? Why? Reading minds, because I don’t care what people think and I’m the type of person who likes to grow and improve who I am!

Please share something surprising people don’t know about you. I don’t have a middle name, haha people always find that odd I don’t know why.

What are your future aspirations? Would love to be a teacher teaching a classroom or possibly working in a ABA therapy program and continuing modeling as an outlet as well as being published in Vogue.

Thank you, Danille.
